The Rule of 100: Life-Long Learning

How a Simple Mindset Shift Transformed My Learning

I once had a wonderful creative director—someone who profoundly shaped how I think and work today. During one of my half-yearly reviews, as we discussed my KPIs and personal growth, she gave me a challenge I’ll never forget:

“Go visit 100 exhibitions.”

At first, my immediate thought was: How am I supposed to find the time to visit 100 exhibitions? With only 52 weekends in a year, the number seemed impossible. But then I realized—the number wasn’t the point.

Setting the bar at 100 forced me to look beyond my usual habits. It made me dig deeper into opportunities around me, explore new spaces, and expand my perspective. I soon discovered that 100 exhibitions weren’t as unachievable as I had thought. Some museums had multiple exhibitions running simultaneously, and in a single visit, I could tick off five or ten. The number became less daunting, and what seemed impossible at first became an exciting challenge.

But what truly stuck with me wasn’t the number—it was the mindset shift.

Even now, I still hear my creative director’s voice: Go visit 100 exhibitions. Not because I need to reach exactly 100, but because aiming higher changes how we approach learning, growth, and personal development.

Applying the Rule of 100 to Your Life

The Rule of 100 isn’t just about exhibitions—it’s a mindset you can apply to anything. Want to master a skill? Set a goal to create 100 designs, write 100 pages, or try 100 new techniques. Want to deepen your industry knowledge? Read 100 articles, network with 100 people, or test 100 ideas.

By aiming high, you push yourself beyond perceived limits. You train your brain to look for more opportunities, and before you know it, the steep learning curve becomes second nature.

So, what’s your 100? Set the bar higher than you think is possible—because the real growth happens in the pursuit, not just the number. 🚀

How This Applies to AI & Design Today

The same principle applies to AI. Many designers hesitate because they don’t know where to start. But imagine if you experimented with 100 prompts or tried 100 AI-assisted designs. A lot of magic could happen in your process!
